Alaska: First Stop on Our Virtual Trip

I am so glad to finally get this trip around the world started!  Aren't you?   Our first stop is the state of Alaska in the United States of America.
Alaska is quiet, wild, and filled with adventure, from the quiet calm turquoise waters of Glacier Bay National Park to the towering untouched snow peaked mountains covered with ancient glaciers. Of course there are beautiful little towns and villages, each with distinct personalities, but today we are going to focus on the serene beauty of Glacier Bay National Park.

If you follow me on Instagram karenpruz, you are sure to have seen the photo shown here:

While on a cruise through Glacier Bay National Park heading towards the large glaciers, he colors of the water, the land and the sky filled my senses with awe.  Nature's color at its finest.  The greens, blues and turquoise waters filled with little white icebergs fallen from the edge of the glaciers, the browns and greens of the hills and mountains, and …

Have a More Meaningful Vacation

When you go away on vacation, do you sometimes feel like it's too commercialized, too overdone by the tourism industry, too busy and overcrowded with tourists? Do you want a more meaningful vacation, where you feel you are a part of a place rather than contributing to the robotic mechanics of a tourist trap?
If you feel like that, then you are going to love this blog post. I've got tips for you on planning ahead for that trip of a lifetime, or a weekend jaunt.

As most creatives feel, I do not like big crowds.  It's stimulus overload.  I get nervous, and anxious, and look forward to leaving.  It's a quandary* though as I want to see the world.  I want to go to the wonders of the world, the big cities, the famous castles, museums, etc.  So how is it possible to truly enjoy your trip when EVERYONE wants to see these places too?  I have some ideas.  Read on.....

Road Trip: Bringing a Travel Art Journal Supply Case

What is a Travel Art Journal Supply Case?  Simply, it's the container(s) for all the art supplies, journals, ephemera and tools you want (or have room for LOL) when you travel.  The case/container you use all depends on what type of traveling you are doing, and where you are going.

There are so many different items you can use as a Travel Art Journal Supply Kit Case.  You could go out and buy something, or a few somethings, that would fit your needs.  I prefer looking around at what I already have that could be repurposed.  Or I will go to thrift and antique stores looking for interesting vintage containers, purses, attaché cases, camera bags, tote bags, and small luggage.

You will see my favorite case at the end of this blog post.  But in the meantime, let me show you some of the things I have used in the past to carry my art supplies on road trips:

Shoe Box/Bag:  When I saw this, I knew right away it would come in handy for something.  A box that is also a bag, or is it a bag th…

Every Journey Starts with an Art Journal

I love creating an Art Journal for each of my travels, whether it be a 2 week vacation to a far away place, or a weekend getaway a short drive from home. I use my Art Journals while I travel to hold all the memories and ephemera I can pack in.  They hold more than art, more than pictures, more than a written journal. My Art Journals hold the ambiance of a place and time. They are journals I can go back to and remember details that may have otherwise dissolved with time.

I spend days, sometimes weeks preparing a journal and collecting the supplies needed to work in it.  Each one is different depending on where I am going, how long I will be gone, how exotic the trip may be, and very important: how I will be traveling.  On car trips I tend to take too much as it seems there will be room for just one more thing.  When traveling by airplane, I travel very light, which takes a lot of planning.

I probably spend as much time preparing the art journal as I do planning the vacation.  The more…

The Virtual ART&TRAVEL Adventure

Travels, Journeys, Adventures...they create feelings of excitement, anticipation, and planning.

Take a virtual trip around the world in this new blog series: ART&TRAVEL. I will be sharing my travel art journals along with art and crafts inspired by cultures and landscapes from around the world.

Every place I have traveled has had unique characteristics that set it apart from other places -- the culture and history, the colors, flavor of foods, flora & fauna, language, and landscape. Many photos have been captured along the way to remember these wonderful experiences.  Looking at the photos and through my travel art journals, brings me so much inspiration.

I have traveled both as a child and teenager, and throughout adulthood. I went new places, tried new things, got out of my comfort zone, and enjoyed different cultures, colors, and flavors of the world.  There are so many places I have not been, that are on the someday list...the bucket list.

As I work on collecting all my pho…
